Am I the only one who thinks that this is very bad for Putin?
This is basically Zelenskyy giving Putin permission to hold a stupid party. The optics of it obviously are that Zelenskyy is powerful and Putin isn’t.
Since Putin’s type is all about him being powerful and able to make the country better, that is a very bad position for him to be in
This stupid war so far has cost Russia 1.5 million casualties, it ran through the vast majority of its weaponry, so much so that it had to pull out 1970 era materiel, it showed to the entire world that it’s internal corruption caused its military to be so weakened that it can barely hold itself to a small country, it has shown that it’s simplistic tactics don’t work on the battle field, and the only way it can get gains is through sheer massive meat grinder attacks. Meanwhile it’s now massively being attacked in its own country, it’s infrastructure is being wrecked and Russians are slowing seeing more and more what war really is like.
And for all of that Russia only holds a small sliver of Ukraine, and it doesn’t hold Kyiv, and it can’t touch Zelenskyy who at this point is a world wide hero. Russias economy has been running red hot as a war economy for a few years now it’s through its reserves, and with the human losses, there is now an enormous gap in human capital, it’s economy lost a shitload of able bodied men and in return received a lot of men that won’t be able to work and will need lifelong medical help.
If Russia wins, it will winna utterly destroyed piece of land, that will require hundreds of billions to repair, billions that Russia doesn’t have, filled with people that hate Russia and will cause terrorist attacks and what not. If Russia loses, it was all for nothing and then the world will pressure it to pair reparations to Ukraine.
And now Zelenskyy basically gives Putin permission for his parade, that must be fucking humiliating for Russians
I don’t know. I know Russians mostly don’t get to see the real news, kinda like a fox news situation, so likely they don’t know how bad the situation really is, but if they know even a little about it, I imagine that they may start thinking about a new leadership

Russians are fucked too because whatever comes after Putin, I doubt it’s democracy, and the guy in charge will doubtfully be better than Putin. The new guy in charge will also inherit a wreck of a country

It’s not really a concession. Russia pulled a ton of AA equipment off duty to guard the parade, so now Ukraine gets to exploit their absence elsewhere.
It’s perpetually confusing to me that there’s a legitimate Ukrainian news site called Pravda.

They’re promising not to attack a parade celebrating the defeat of the Nazis in 1945.

You’re right that some people signed up for ML simply because it’s the flagship instance and they didn’t know it’s run by tankies.
But that’s one right there.
For the record, I’m talking about people holding the ideology that instance was named after, not the instance itself. I don’t peruse Lemmy outside of Beehaw, so I don’t know enough about the instance to comment on it. (That said, I’ll take your word for it, considering users from there have attacked me for absurd reasons before.)
