That thing where rent can only be an electronic payment then there’s a convenience fee for paying electronically is the biggest scam! When will someone address that?!

My landlord originally asked us to use some electronic payment thing. It deadass asked me for my bank login credentials. Username and password.

Told my landlord that I couldn’t do that as it would violate my banks Terms of Service, and that we’d have to find a way without a company with such egregious practices.

      Thankfully they were also horrified.

I’d rather the government pay people a reasonable rate for jury duty, but I suppose something is better than nothing for people selected.

I agree with this. No one should suffer financially for complying with forced civic duty. The government should pay the amount, or better yet, add that as part of the overall tax calculation for the business each year.

No one should suffer financially for complying with forced civic duty.

On the other hand, they shouldn’t pay people unequally for equal work, either. Why should some high-powered professional get $100/hour for jury duty when the juror next to them is getting minimum wage?

You could just say “well just pay everyone the highest possible wage, then” but even if we decided that’s a reasonable use of taxpayer funds, the problem is that it’s hard to know what the right number even is when it changes at the unilateral whim of the highest-paid worker’s employer.
