“The Federal Republic of Germany was an American creation, with the U.S. having shepherded Germany down the path of democracy following World War II. America was Germany’s big brother, and although the relationship was not always free of tension, there was never a doubt about the military support from across the Atlantic. That is now over.”

Interesting read.

I don’t know how to feel about this. Because, he’s not wrong. From Germanys perspective, trump controling the usa is basically putin controling the usa.

So I can see why that is the thought process here.

But I don’t want that to be the thought process. I don’t want to alienate all our allies. I want life to make sense. What we got instead is a clear indication that the united states is going to attack itself, and is already attacking itself.

Germany is just trying to stay out of the crossfire, and I get that. So, I can’t just say “Good! Let them be our advasary so they don’t get caught up in this”. I can’t say that because it has long term reprocussions that I feel we may have already crossed.

Mostly, I just want all this bullshit in the usa to boil over. Lets get this civil war out of the way. Lets forge our path that nazi lives don’t matter.

And to all other nations out there, I’m sorry. I’m embarassed to be an American right now. When even Canada is getting stern with you, you know you fucked up. And we did. We fucked up bad. We’re going to keep fucking up presumably for at least the next 4 years. After that, I have no idea. But right now, saying you’re American is like shitting your pants in an elevator.

And to all other countries out there, I’m sorry for existing.

There are good people everywhere… That’s true in USA and even in russia, China, North Korea … only it’s harder for them to make their voices heard. But you did, thanks for that.

      “Boil over” I don’t want ____”?

Bud, respectfully, too bad. The US has been breaking everyone else’s shit consequence-free for decades upon decades, in large part because its own citizens are generally “head in the sand” centrists who never hold evil accountable for anything. This “boil over” talk is more of that and if you want to see this fixed you’re gunna have to put on your big kid pants and fucking do something about it.

As a German: I understand that. And while the damage can’t be undone as easily as it has been dealt I’m sure Europe will offer a reformed US a seat at the table. People are angry and confused and the tone tends to reflect that but we know Trump isn’t the only voice in the US. And culturally the Western world is still connected. I wouldn’t worry too much about that right now.

The important thing as you said is resistance. It’s too early to apologize while there are still ways to take action. Don’t be sorry you exist, just be sure to make it count.
