US President Donald Trump railed against Medicare for All during an Oval Office event on Tuesday, falsely claiming the proposal would be prohibitively expensive and ineffective despite new research confirming it would save lives and cost significantly less than the corporate-dominated status quo.
The president’s remarks came during an event touting his limited, voluntary, and secretive agreements with leading pharmaceutical companies, deals purportedly aimed at lowering drug prices. Trump again lied by claiming that his efforts are “much bigger” than Medicare for All, which would provide comprehensive health coverage to every person in the US for free at the point of service, eliminating premiums, copays, and deductibles.
Trump said that Medicare for All, which has not been tried at a national level in the US, “doesn’t work,” falsely claiming a single-payer system would cost “the entire budget of the whole country” and send taxes into the stratosphere.
Even if it were true, such spending would be better than on endless wars and tax cuts for trillionaires. This kind of spending would also prevent the people spending on guillotines, especially with the ai displacing workers. They’re already threatening guillotines, so it’d be an investment in having a stable society if anything
There is no way that a halfway decently run Medicare for all would cost more than the complex mess we have now. Right now the ACA, while fairly effective, is funneling taxpayer money to subsidize corporate insurance policies. You know corporations, the ones that are constantly greedy, will never settle for just a little profit, love to deny and complicate claims, and make record profits in times of crisis and inflation.
Yet somehow almost every other country is able to do it. But we can’t do that and upset the insurance companies now can we

The USA would turn into the healthiest country of the whole planet in a matter of weeks.
People would actually want to go to the doctor and spend time in the hospital. The food would be better too.

You don’t need to divert funds long-term from anything into healthcare. A government-run healthcare system that’s free at the point of use is cheaper than the existing US system and will almost certainly deliver better results (as long as an idiotic saboteur crank like RFK Jr isn’t in charge).
What many don’t understand is that universal healthcare would decrease the overall amount spent on healthcare by giving one buyer (the government) enormous leverage over multiple sellers, enabling it to negotiate on price in the same manner that other single-payer healthcare systems do.
Yup. America currently pays about 12-15k per capita while a lot of other developed nations pay about 4-8k
And that extra money buys worse outcomes.
Another thing that’s not discussed enough is that universal healthcare also reduces other insurance premiums, because (for example, in the case of car insurance) one of the costs to be covered is healthcare costs for someone else who is injured. The same goes for homeowner and employer liability for accidents.
How do other countries - the ones that tiny-d donnie and other conservatives think are so much worse and not as strong and bigly and don’t have big and girthy economies like MERICA - just how do those countries manage to do it and have such happy populations?

There is no liberal media. There is a small contingent of independent progressive media outlets, but everything else is oligarch-controlled.
