A coalition of civil rights groups and voting rights advocates are suing to block Donald Trump’s administration from deploying immigration enforcement agents to polling places on Election Day.

The administration has not explicitly outlined plans to send armed Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers to the polls, but top officials have repeatedly suggested that federal agents could show up to respond to “threats” or make an immigration arrest.

But that’s illegal, according to Thursday’s lawsuit, which was joined by the city of Denver. Under federal law, the only reason federal agents or the U.S. military can show up to polling places is to “repel armed enemies of the United States,” the lawsuit states.

“The specter of armed officers at polling places threatens the freedom of this upcoming election,” according to the complaint.

How much do you want to bet it will be rejected for standing and or other procedural grounds?

We have to wait for the agents to cause harm, then sue they will say. But in any case since nationwide injunctions are now forbidden, (a big fucking deal that decision in 2025,) it would only affect the federal district it’s decided on, unless scotus jumps in.

SCOTUS: “Until it happens we can’t determine if it’s harmful.” Thanks sugarbabies. The world’s oldest democracy in action everybody.

Winner winner chicken dinner! I’m glad at least a few people paid attention in history class.

If only citizens can vote then why the fuck do ICE need to be there?

The poll workers are the ones who check IDs and how many times has an illegal alien gone up to a polling place and tried to vote? Like 5?

People do vote illegally, most US citizens double voting. Most are voting for republicans, a fact never seemingly even mentioned by democrats that just let republicans pretend it’s all for democrats.

It’s still super rare, and people that try to do it get caught.

Because ICE has that app that can tell a person’s citizenship by their picture. Their plan will be to harass and arrest anyone their app tells them looks foreign. Even if that person has their ID, and proof of citizenship, ICE will just tell them their ID is fake and confiscate it.

They’re legally allowed to racially profile. How could they not interfere by showing up if anyone non-white comes to vote? They’ve harassed, detained, arrested, and deported US citizens. Think a bunch of white citizens open carrying around the perimeter would keep their attention away from the polls?
