That’s it’s a direct attack on the separation on church and state and it’s an attempt to put the organization capable of doing the most violence in human history, in the hands of people who still beleifs in fairy tales and give fealty to religious authority over reason or sense or empathy.

Yes, of course! We must be ever watchful of the enemies of Christ. Jesus exterminated every single traitor who handed him over to the Romans, and burned Jerusalem to the ground, after escaping the cross. I’m sure Emperor Tiberius felt very stupid just before Jesus executed him in the Battle of Rome. Remember that mercy and forgiveness are the work of the Devil - we must continue Jesus’ revenge against evil.

        Come, let’s pray!

“Our Father, who art our King. Bereave us of weakness, lest we forgive those who trespass against us. And draw out evil from darkness, so we may vanquish it in thy name. Amen.”

And the second command is like the first: ‘Love your neighbor as you love yourself.’

          oh and

Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.

that second one being the path to breaking the cycle and escaping the material prison we’re currently trapped in, vengeance is a cycle without end.

mind you i’m pretty fucking hurt right now, and my heart is really struggling with the way a lot of people are acting, so i’m no saint.

just saying though, there’s a reason those things were said

Well, I’m sourcing from The Inquisitor Cycle, an alternate retelling where Jesus did what the evangelicals wanted him to do.

You see, in this retelling, Jesus told the Romans nearby that he’s going to butcher them all if they don’t let him down this instant. They laughed him off. Jesus made good on his threat, and kept going until he conquered the Roman Empire.

In this other reality, Jesus didn’t die to remove original sin, and instead decided to only save those who prove themselves worthy. This is done by showing no mercy to anyone or anything that may oppose him. In fact, mercy is considered a very serious mortal sin, since that’s what got Jesus killed in our world. The cross in the other reality has the ends bent to show how determined Jesus was to fight the injustice brought upon him (by breaking the cross, and I think he started killing people with it iirc).

It’s a great fit for Christianity in America these days. Rather than “love your neighbor”, it’s “shoot your neighbor in the fucking head if you have any suspicion that he’s a spy for the Devil”.

Also, remember when people give conservatives the benefit of the doubt and try to paper this over as some kind of recent aberration among conservatives and pull the No True Scotsman out and try to cast back to people like Buckley as an example of “good conservatives”, remember that he wrote God and Man at Yale.

Keep that in mind when you see what Hegseth is bleating about here, and it’s obvious that none of this shit is the least bit new:

Classical Christian education is our only hope to “give our kids and grandkids at least a fighting chance to save America and Christendom,” Hegseth concludes. He exhorts parents to “join the insurgency!” Children educated in this way, he believes, might stand a chance at defending their nation—because the wokes have failed miserably.

    Buckley:

I believe that the duel between Christianity and atheism is the most important in the world. I further believe that the struggle between individualism and collectivism is the same struggle reproduced on another level.

I can’t tell if Buckley is in favour of individualism or collectivism there. Real Christianity seems like it would lean more towards collectivism, but right-wingers might see collectivism as one step away from socialism.

Oh, I’m quite sure of it. Russell was an outspoken atheist, and Buckley wrote an entire book about how Yale was too accommodating of “secularism”[1]. In the 1950s.

[1] I find the way that cons talk about secularism rather annoying. They often use the term interchangeably with atheism or being outright hostile to others being religious, etc. Secularism is just the absence of giving a reach-around to a given religion, but these guys act like it’s some kind of ideology. This, they bitch about constantly, in a country founded on freedom of and FROM religion. We were founded as a secular nation, intentionally and a certain type of person has been pissed about it ever since.
