Yeah ‘fringe’ makes me think of these jackets:

Those are lunchboxes. I see how one might make that mistake, given their size relative to the kids. Either the lunxhboxes are comically large or the kids are comically small.
i think it’s more that people expect lunchboxes to have rounded corners
