Well of course they’re going to.

They’ve been blatantly backing Trump and the MAGA Republicans, and why wouldn’t they?: They’re ideological allies. They all want the same thing - moralistic and militaristic kleptocratic autocracies that will stand against the threat that progressivism poses to their unearned, undeserved and grossly destructive privilege.

It’s not an accident that Tucker Carlson flew over to fellate Putin, or that Trump and the MAGA Republicans have undermined support for Ukraine at every turn, or that they’ve expressed increasing hostility toward NATO at every turn. As part of their fascist coup, the hard right wants to ultimately entirely switch sides - to ally with Russia and against Europe, since Russia represents everything they admire and Europe represents everything they hate.

Of course Russia is going to assist in that.

I think it’s less about compatible ideologies and more about the intention to destabilize the west.

China and Russia know damn well that another Trump presidency will continue to drive America into the ground.

Considering they hate us this is their best move. They want us to crumble and Trump is our best bet for that.

A strong America is Russia and chinas biggest hurdle.

Considering they hate us this is their best move.

This is a super naive way of looking at geopolitics, especially regarding China. We are their biggest trade ally. If the US crumbles, both of our economies implode. Trump wants to put insane tariffs on our imports from China. An economically strong US is to China’s benefit since we are their single biggest trade ally (comparable to the entire European Union, which includes major trade allies as well). A strong US is not “China’s biggest hurdle.”

Russia geopolitically benefits from Trump in power because, among other things, Trump is fine letting Russia continue to ravage Ukraine with war and wants to pull us out of NATO (or at least cut funding to it). We don’t have strong trade relations with Russia so they aren’t directly affected if we economically flounder (the weak trade relations is why the sanctions on Russia did basically nothing long-term; Russia was already doing very little trade with the US).

China is not interested in “destabilizing the west.” They would obviously benefit from being the economic center of the world, but they get there via strong geopolitical and economic relations with other relevant countries (which means not trying to cause those countries to collapse). Russia has less incentive to avoid causing turmoil in the US and EU, but right now it would very directly benefit from a Trump presidency, which in this case would be the driver behind Russia’s decision to help put Trump back in power.

Trump said on a news conference before the election, “Russia, if you’re listening — I hope you are able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing. I think you will probably be rewarded mightily by our press. Let’s see if that happens.”

Russia released DNC emails the next day.

Russia is an enemy of America and democracy and is and has been actively trying to overthrow our country via info and cyber warfare.

Am I the only one that finds it strange that all this shit with Russian hacks and the fascist uprising in America started quickly after Snowden was given asylum there?

Let’s not fool ourselves here…there is no way if you or I were Putin he’d be allowed to stay without some of that info.

I mean the guy could have picked quite a few other places to go after committing treason that had non-extradition treaties with the US but he didn’t.

And now thru back channeled manipulation Donald shit-his-pants Trump was elected president with that stolen info

It started with Bill Browder and the Magnitsky Act. The timelines are so close together that it’s hard to separate, but I think that the Magnitsky Act was when the real motivation came in on the Russian side, and Snowden (and any possible additional fuckin with they were able to do because of intel they gathered from him; I won’t say you are wrong) came afterwards, as their efforts were just first starting to gather momentum. But I definitely remember that as of Snowden getting asylum, they were already heavily actively engaged in ways to fuck with us, in a way I don’t think they were prior to 2012.

It’s sad and ironic and displeasing. The Magnitsky Act was a very rare instance of the US doing something on the world stage that really was motivated at least in part by simple concern for human rights. And we paid the biggest price for it - up to and including this present godawful clusterfuck of a well-funded and -equipped GOP explicitly trying to destroy America and making pretty good progress on it so far - far more than any consequences we ever face for doing our standard war criminal geopolitical evil.

I’ll only speak for myself; I don’t think Snowden was a traitor. The guy’s a fuckin hero. That’s not mutually exclusive with maybe him having to give up some intel once he’s in the clutches of the Russian government with maybe not a lot of options that wouldn’t lead to some real bad shit for him.

I feel bad for the guy. He 100% did the right thing, knowing ahead of time that he would get fucked for it, and now he’s fucked and has powerful powerful enemies, and no friends who can make any difference for him. If anything I was saying sounded like I was agreeing he was a traitor, I was not.

Bro, the Patriot Act happened right after 9-11 and it was right in there plain as day that the gov’t would be listening to the interet traffic of everyone to save us from turrists.

And way way before that Ma Bell was known for giving access to the gov’t to listen in on phone calls. You think Snowden is some oracle on that front?

I never called him a trator, I merely said it’s coincidental.

You don’t get it guys, there’s literally no evidence that Russia likes Trump and wants Republicans to win! None! They never met with Russian operatives to discuss orphans (dropping the sanctions on Russia from the magnitski act, orphan exchange was retaliation from Russia)

There was never a young redhead Russian operative dating Republican politicians!

There was never a meeting between Trump and Putin where no US translators were allowed!

There was never an attempt to make a Trump Moscow hotel!

There was never a transaction between Paul Manafort and a Russian intelligence operative where he shared campaign information!

There was never a time that Trump said on a news conference before the election, “Russia, if you’re listening — I hope you are able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing. I think you will probably be rewarded mightily by our press. Let’s see if that happens.” Russia never released the DNC emails the next day!

Sean Hannity yelled at me that Democrats are the ones helping Putin and they’re the real Nazis so I believe it!

It all depends on why you’re talking about Russia.

Russia wants Trump to win: No! Fake News! He’s the hardest on Russia, more than any president ever! The Democrats are the ones working for Putin!

Russia in general: Russia is a great country with a strong leader, it’s good to see Republicans pushing to emulate that! Ukraine would have never been invaded if Republicans were in power!

I suspect that we’re seeing a lot of this on Lemmy already. I’ve started paying attention to usernames of those who post content, and have found that it’s just a couple people posting the vast majority of hyper-critical anti-Biden content. These posts tend to get hundreds of upvotes without many comments. I remember seeing similar behavior on Reddit in the previous election cycle, and on 4chan in the election before that.

I made !pleasantpolitics@slrpnk.net to test a new moderation approach which is designed to filter out a lot of the crap. I think you should try posting some articles there, and see whether you see the same hyper-critical anti-Biden content. I think I know what you’re talking about, and I think the filtering bot will probably be able to detect and ban almost all of the users you’re talking about.

Not so much “recommending” as “shrieking and demanding,” but yes.

Should tell you something, TBH. If Biden was a guaranteed fuckup that would deliver Trump, and replacing him was the only road to Democratic victory, we’d see all kinds of Russian bots stumping for Biden and saying what a great thing he was for the Democratic party, and as a proud Democrat I’m standing behind him and you should too.

Yep. Russians and Republicans want Biden to bow out because they’re afraid they’ll lose to him. And after all the shit they’ve thrown, it’ll come back on them. You’re absolutely right, if they thought they could beat him without issue, they’d be telling every Democrat to vote for him.

Agreed. To me, who are the people speaking which strategies is a very notable part of the picture.

I will say, he’s old as fuck and it’s a problem. I am not trying to deny that part. But the absolute shrieking media hurricane that is currently demanding that he needs to resign first, and that we need to amp up attacks on his performance to encourage that outcome instead of spending any of that energy on Trump, and the strategy of what the Democrats are going to do instead of Biden can get figured out at some later date at a more leisurely pace, cannot possibly be based on anything that any Democrat should be listening to for a nanosecond, let alone repeating and amplifying.
